Research isn’t just about gaining academic credit—it’s about cultivating the civic leadership skills essential to making real-world change. Our research opportunities empower you to translate your findings into actionable solutions for local and international communities.
Whether you’re designing policies, analyzing public data, or addressing global challenges, these experiences lay the groundwork for effective civic engagement.
Civic Scholars
The Civic Scholars program offers UF undergrads an opportunity to engage in a semester of entry-level research to gain a better understanding of interdisciplinary social science research approaches. Participants also learn about critical issues impacting global communities through the lens of civic engagement and public policy. Spring 2025 scholars will pursue research on critical policy issues impacting communities across the world. Civic Scholars will enroll in a 2-credit course instructed by Dr. Teresa Cornacchione and Professor Marianne Vernetson, Graham Center faculty. Students will present their research at an April research symposium. Enrollment is limited. Read more.

International Studies Major
All International Studies students complete a substantial research project as part of the major. Most accomplish this through the Senior Research Seminar (INS 4930), where INS faculty lead students through a semester-long, stepwise approach to building subject matter expertise and composing a scholarly paper. Students may also complete an independent research project under faculty guidance as part of an internship, research, or study abroad experience. In either case, the product is a high-quality research project that students can be proud of and use as a writing sample for job or graduate school applications. Learn more.
