Future-Focused: Florida’s State Museum Turns 100

August 29, 2017

Explore More – a forum for scientists and scholars featured in UF’s Explore research magazine – presented a conversation with Florida Museum of Natural History Director Douglas S. Jones, Ph.D., about the museum’s century of extraordinary success as both the state museum and UF’s natural history museum. The museum is widely ranked among the top three university-associated natural history museums in the nation.

Looking toward the future, the museum is focused on the challenges facing Floridians, including impacts from climate change, habitat degradation and biodiversity loss, proliferation of invasive species, environmental health, etc. The museum has moved well beyond its display cases and its walls, using its objects, electronic data and expertise to inspire people to care about life on earth and make a positive difference for the future.

The event was co-sponsored by UF’s Explore research magazine, the UF Office of Research and the Bob Graham Center for Public Service.
