Description
The Bob Graham Center for Public Service at the University of Florida is conducting a national search for a dynamic individual with demonstrated experience in local, state, and/or national based civic engagement, public leadership, and/or public service to serve as Lecturer and Civic Engagement & Experiential Learning Coordinator for the Center. This is a twelve-month, non-tenure-accruing faculty position, to be renewed on a year-to-year basis beginning August 16, 2020. The salary is competitive and commensurate with qualifications and experience, and includes a full benefits package.
About the Civic Engagement and Experiential Learning Coordinator
The successful candidate will be expected to:
- Teach two courses per fall, two courses per spring, and one course in the summer semester focusing on some aspect of civic engagement and/or public policy. This may include contributing to or teaching the Center’s online undergraduate civic engagement course, courses designed for the Public Leadership Minor (Current Controversies in Public Policy or Policy, Ethics, and Public Leadership), an online course in Florida politics connected to the Tallahassee Internship Program in the spring semester, or other courses associated with experiential learning, in addition to courses in the individual’s specific area of expertise.
- Serve as the Center’s Civic Engagement Coordinator, which may include, but is not limited to, the following:
- Implementing the Center’s voter registration, non-partisan voter education, and voter turnout initiatives, which may include coordinating with the Andrew Goodman Vote Everywhere Ambassadors, TurboVote, UF student government, and off-campus entities.
- Overseeing and advising student-led initiatives such as the Future of Florida Summit, Assembly for Action, and the Women in Leadership programs.
- Developing and executing the Center’s Civic Scholars Program.
- Coordinating and developing the Center’s community outreach initiatives, including speaking at K-12 and other educator events in Gainesville and throughout Florida.
- Serve as the Center’s Experiential Learning Coordinator, which may include, but is not limited to, the following:
- Implementing and developing the Center’s experiential learning opportunities and partnerships, such as UF’s Tallahassee Internship Program, UF’s Washington Internship Program, the College’s Beyond120 program, and UF’s City of Gainesville Fellowship.
- Liaising with external experiential learning opportunities, such as The Washington Center, and developing new ones.
- Perform other duties as assigned to help develop and further the mission and expand the reach of the Graham Center locally, statewide, nationally, and internationally.
Bob Graham Center students endeavor to influence policy and interact with leaders in the local, state, national, and international arenas through the Center’s public programs, special projects, academic coursework, and research initiatives. You will join a collaborative Center staff dedicated to promoting student success and ideals of civic engagement, public leadership, and public service. Some evening and weekend work is required.

Qualifications
Required Qualifications:
- Master’s degree in Public Policy, Public Administration, or other directly relevant area
- Three years of experience working in local or state civic engagement, public leadership, or public service oriented positions, or three years equivalent experience in academic program coordination
- A commitment to working in and engaging with underserved communities and providing inclusive access to the Center’s programs and initiatives.
Preferred Qualifications:
- A doctoral degree or other terminal professional degree, or equivalent relevant experience
