The International Studies Program, an academic discipline within the Bob Graham Center at the University of Florida, invites applications for a full-time, non-tenure track appointment at the rank of Lecturer in the Middle East and North Africa with a preferred primary area of specialization in global health, governance, civil society, or development. The successful candidate will begin August 16, 2020.
About International Studies
The International Studies program is a dynamic interdisciplinary undergraduate major in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences that accepts course work from over 40 departments and units across the University of Florida. The major prepares students for careers in global affairs, international business, public affairs, and other career choices by providing them with foreign language skills, regional cultural awareness, and informed knowledge of critical international issues in global and local contexts. In 2019, the International Studies major became a formal academic program within the Bob Graham Center for Public Service, under Director Matt Jacobs, Ph.D and Undergraduate Coordinator Tim Karis, Ph.D. At present there are approximately 250 UF students majoring in International Studies.
About the Lecturer Postion
We encourage applications from candidates whose experience comes from outside academia, such as international organizations and non-governmental organizations.
The Lecturer will teach approximately three courses per semester and provide substantial service. Of those courses, it is expected that two will be core interdisciplinary courses for the International Studies Program, with the remainder corresponding to the Lecturer’s specialization. The Lecturer will be the coordinator for experiential learning opportunities including internships, study abroad, and research in the international studies program. The balance between service and teaching will depend on the needs of the program and will be determined on an annual basis.
The role of lecturers is highly valued by the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences and by the University of Florida. To encourage and facilitate the professional development of lecturers, the university provides opportunities for promotion from the ranks of Lecturer to Senior Lecturer and Master Lecturer. Lecturer appointments are typically for 9 months per year and are annually renewable. Salary is competitive, commensurate with qualifications and experience, and includes a full benefits package.

Qualifications
Candidates must hold at least a Master’s degree (a Doctoral degree is preferred for applicants from an academic background) or other professionally appropriate graduate degree by the starting date of August 16, 2020.
