Gainesville Special Election

Gainesville voters will decide in an upcoming election whether Gainesville Regional Utilities (GRU) remains under a state-appointed board (No) or returns to local control (Yes).

UF Students: If you are registered to vote in Florida AND live within Gainesville city limits, you can vote in this election. Polls are open 7 am to 7 pm on Election Day, Nov 4.

You can also take advantage of Early Voting that runs Oct 31–Nov 2 (9 am–6 pm) at the Millhopper Library or at the Supervisor of Elections office downtown.

Many students will likely have to update their voting address to their dorm or local residence address. To avoid delays at the Early Voting site or at the polling site on Election Day, call the local Supervisor of Election’s office directly at 352-374-5252 to make the change. You will need your driver’s license and potentially the last four digits of your SSN. The change will take effect immediately.

On Election Day, use the handy Precinct Finder to find your voting location. In most cases, the Reitz Union serves as the polling place for students who live on campus and around Sorority Row.

Did You Know?

If you are a UF student, you can decide to register to vote and cast your vote either here at UF, or your family’s address back home. Updating your Florida registration to vote in the Gainesville community will not affect your federal financial aid, status as a dependent on your parents’ taxes, or tuition status. You can update your address at the early voting locations listed above, or call the Alachua County Supervisor of Elections Office at 352-374-5252.
