Seeds of Violence: Addressing Childhood Violence
November 4, 2013
When an individual experiences trauma, it impacts every area of functioning — physical, mental, behavioral, social, and spiritual. Addressing trauma, especially in young children, will help to improve the long-term safety and well-being of a community. On Nov. 4 the Bob Graham Center for Public Service, the University of Florida’s College of Medicine and the River Phoenix Center for Peacebuilding hosted a panel discussion examining the impact of failing to properly address trauma and local efforts to become a Trauma Informed Community. Panelists included:
- Dot Maver, Executive Director, River Phoenix Center for Peacebuilding
- Deb Esernio-Jenssen, Medical Director, University of Florida, Child Protection Team
- Gretchen Casey, Director of Victim Services, Office of the State Attorney, 8th Judicial Circuit
- Teresa Drake, Director, Intimate Partner Violence Assistance Clinic (IPVAC), UF Levin College of Law
- Bruce Ferris, MA, Licensed Mental Health Counselor and retired domestic violence detective.
