Pulitzer Prize Centennial Celebration: The Secrets of Award-Winning Journalism An evening with Paul Tash

March 14, 2016

Celebrating 100 years of excellence in journalism and the arts, the College of Journalism and Communications at the University of Florida hosted Paul Tash, chairman and CEO of the Times Publishing Company, on March 14 at 6 p.m. in the Pugh Hall Ocora as part of the Pulitzer Prize Centennial Celebration. The Tampa Bay Times is Florida’s leading newspaper, and has won 10 Pulitzer Prizes. Tash brought his years of experience to the Bob Graham Center with the hopes of inspiring a new generation of journalists and revealing the secrets of award-winning journalism.

Paul Tash started with the Times in 1978 as a local news reporter. He also has been a Tallahassee reporter, the city editor, metropolitan editor, Washington bureau chief and editor of the Times. From 1990-91, Tash was the editor and publisher of Florida Trend, a statewide business magazine owned by Times Publishing.

Tash is chairman of the Poynter Institute for Media Studies, a school for journalists and media leaders, which owns Times Publishing. He also is past chairman of the Pulitzer Prize board and former board member of the Committee to Protect Journalists. He currently serves on the board of the Associated Press. Tash also is a member of the Florida Council of 100, a group of business leaders.

In 2012, Tash received the Distinguished Alumni Service Award from Indiana University, and he was inducted to the Indiana Journalism Hall of Fame the following year.

This event was sponsored by the College of Journalism and Communications and the Bob Graham Center.
