Medical Marijuana Forum #FLMedPot

September 30, 2014

The debate over medical marijuana is coming to the University of Florida in a panel discussion later this month.

The Pot Predicament: Is Marijuana Good Medicine? was held Sept. 30 at 6 p.m. in the Pugh Hall Ocora.  It featured a lively panel discussion on Amendment 2, the proposed Florida constitutional amendment that would legalize medical marijuana.

The panel included a UF law professor who helped write the amendment; the Alachua County sheriff, who is critical of the amendment; a UF pharmacy professor, who also has concerns about medical marijuana; and a retired Air Force captain who has used medical marijuana for chronic pain. Gainesville Sun editorial page editor Nathan Crabbe moderated.

The event was brought to you by The Sun and UF’s Bob Graham Center for Public Service, with additional sponsorship from the League of Women Voters of Alachua County and Florida Blue Key. The program was also being supported by a grant from the Florida Campus Compact.

Florida Campus Compact’s 2014 Campus Democracy Project is a non-partisan initiative that seeks to promote civil and issue based dialogue, while inspiring leadership and civic responsibility for conscientious citizenship in a participatory democracy, through increased civic education and participation at Florida’s institutions of higher education. This initiative does not endorse, promote or support any candidate, issue, platform, or political party.
