Gainesville Sun: Gainesville For All

The Gainesville Sun hosted a panel discussion at the Bob Graham Center on Oct. 25 at 6 p.m. which will focus on health disparities and how they relate to issues of education, crime and economic opportunities in our community. The panel featured Dr. Nancy Hardt, professor emeritus in the University of Florida College of Medicine; David Denslow, professor emeritus in the UF College of Business; and James Lawrence, director of the Gainesville Sun’s GNV4ALL initiative. The panel was moderated by Nathan Crabbe, The Sun’s opinion and engagement editor.
Dr. Nancy Hardt has dedicated decades to teaching medical students, political leaders and the community about the causes and solutions to health disparities in children and families. In 2010, Hardt founded the UF’s Mobile Outreach Clinic. The clinic provides primary health care services for women, men and children in underserved areas of Gainesville and Alachua County. Hardt retired in 2015 after 34 years of service to the University of Florida’s College of Medicine.
Dr. David Denslow is a research economist for the Bureau of Economic and Business Research and a distinguished professor in the Department of Economics. Well-known as the face of the televised course Basic Macroeconomics, Denslow will discuss the economics of inequality and economic causes of childhood poverty.
