Explore More: The Democracy Machine

October 18, 2016

Explore More – a forum for scientists and scholars  featured in UF’s Explore research magazine – presented two UF elections experts, computer science Professor Juan Gilbert and political science Associate Professor Michael McDonald on Tuesday, October 18, at 6 p.m. in the Pugh Hall Ocora.

Gilbert is the Andrew Banks Family Preeminence Endowed Professor and chair of UF’s Department of Computer & Information Science & Engineering. He leads UF’s Human-Experience Research Lab and he and his team have been leaders in the development of electronic voting technology, including Prime III, a software enabling voters with disabilities to easily participate in the electoral process.

Michael McDonald’s districtbuilder.org website is helping to depoliticize the redistricting process by putting the ability to draw fair voting districts in the hands of the people. His United States Elections Project has become an invaluable resource for the media, politicians and a public interested in real-time voter turnout data.

The event was co-sponsored by UF’s Explore research magazine and the Office of Research, the League of Women Voters and the Bob Graham Center for Public Service.
