Explore More: Aging in the Right Place

November 27, 2017

Explore More – a forum for scientists and scholars featured in UF’s Explore research magazine – presented a conversation about new ways to look at the question of how to grow old successfully, with UF professor and gerontologist Stephen Golant, Ph.D., on Tuesday, Nov. 14, at 6 p.m. in the Pugh Hall Ocora.

UF Office of Research Science Writer Cindy Spence interviewed Golant about his book, Aging in the Right Place, which provides a comprehensive analysis of the complex factors that influence the present and future types of living arrangements among which seniors can choose.

The book contrasts the desire for comfort in a home environment with the mastery that comes from feeling competent and in control in the face of age-related losses due to poor health, restricted mobility and reduced social supports. At its core, the book provides a deeper discussion of how residential and care settings impact an individuals’ physical and mental well-being.

Aging in the Right Place  is now available in print format and in e-book format on all major platforms. For more information, visit www.healthpropress.com/product/aging-in-the-right-place/.
