Brexit: UK & Europe’s Politico-economic Future

On Thursday, Sept.15, the University of Florida Center for European Studies, the Jean Monnet Center for Excellence and the Bob Graham Center for Public Service hosted a roundtable examining the political and economic impacts of the United Kingdom leaving the European Union. Distinguished scholars from across the U.S. in fields of political science and economics led the informative panel discussion at 6 p.m. in the Pugh Hall Ocora on the University of Florida campus.
Roundtable Participants:
Dr. Patrick Crowley, International Economist and Professor of Economics Texas A&M University
Dr. Crowley specializes in studies of regional integration, with particular emphasis on the European Union. He has published widely in journals such as the Journal of Economic Surveys, Journal of Common Market Studies, the Journal of Economic Integration, and the International Trade Journal. He has been the editor for several edited volumes on Europe, most notably Before and Beyond EMU which was published in 2002 and Crossing the Atlantic which was published in 2004. Crowley is currently co-chair of the economics interest section of the European Union Studies Association of the U.S., and is also a Fellow of the Euro Area Business Cycle Network (EABCN).
Dr. Jae-Jae Spoon, Associate Professor in the Department of Political Science University of Pittsburgh
Dr. Spoon’s research focuses on comparative electoral behavior primarily in Europe. She is interested in understanding political party strategies and their outcomes, its elected officials, and voters, and how party type and size, institutions, and context influence parties’ decision‐making. She has a particular interest in the behavior of new and small political parties. Professor Spoon received her Ph.D. from the University of Michigan in 2005. Before moving to Pittsburgh, she taught at the University of Iowa and the University of North Texas and was a visiting researcher at the University of Mannheim.
Dr. Amie Kreppel, Associate Professor in the Department of Political Science and Jean Monnet Chair University of Florida
Dr. Kreppel has written extensively on the political institutions of Europe in general and the European Union and Italy more specifically. Her publications include a book on the Development of the European Parliament and Supranational Party System, published by Cambridge University Press (2002) as well as articles in a wide variety of journals including Comparative Political Studies, the British Journal of Political Research, European Union Politics, the European Journal of Political Research, Political Research Quarterly, the Journal of European Public Policy and the Journal of Common Market Studies. Dr. Kreppel is a founding member of the transatlantic European Parliament Research Group (EPRG) and was a Public Policy Scholar at the Woodrow Wilson International Center for Scholars in Washington D.C.
