The Great Debate: African American Studies in Florida
The Florida Department of Education rejected the AP African American Studies curriculum because it did not present “opposing views on slavery” and in its current state violates Florida Law. In July, the Florida State Board of Education new standards states African Americans had “benefited from slavery.” These two statements are one reason why students should take courses and consider majoring in African American Studies. Join the African American Studies faculty to discuss their research and these important issues.
