Projection: Lambert Conformal Conic, CM: 14E, SP: 10N, 25NThe University of Florida Sahel Research Group announces an opening for a paid internship to serve as a program assistant for the Fall 2020 semester. This presents an exciting opportunity to be involved with a dynamic ongoing research team focused on the countries of the West African Sahel (Senegal, Mauritania, Mali, Burkina Faso, Niger and Chad).  For more information on the SRG see: http://sahelresearch.africa.ufl.edu/

Required skills include: very good French language skills, strong technology skills, highly organized and able to work with minimal supervision, and an interest and background in (or a strong willingness to learn quickly about) the contemporary Sahel.

The SRG program assistant will have primary responsibility for helping to research, edit and send a weekly electronic newsletter focused on the region. This requires a strong ability to find and summarize news sources (from French and English) on current events in the region.  The program assistant will also help to maintain and update the SRG website and manage social media and communications.  Depending on time availability, other duties might include occasional research and editorial assistance; and—global pandemic permitting—occasional logistical support for group seminars or other events.

The position will require availability to work a minimum of 15, but preferably 20, hours per week. The position is available immediately, and applicants must be able to begin by no later than mid-August 2020.  Candidates must be willing to commit at least for the fall semester.

To apply, please send a CV or resume, including the name of at least one reference, and a letter of interest explaining your background and skills to Prof. Leonardo Villalón at villalon@ufl.edu. Applications will be reviewed as they are received.  We hope to fill the position as soon as possible.
