The Chickenshit Club: Why the Justice Department Fails to Prosecute Executives

March 19, 2019

The financial crisis of 2008 is considered by many economists to have been the worst financial crisis since the Great Depression. Resulting largely from excessive risk-taking by banks such as Lehman Brothers, a global economic downturn ensued and massive bail-outs and fiscal policies were employed. Why were no bankers put in prison after the financial crisis?

On March 19 at 6 p.m. in the Pugh Hall Ocora, Pulitzer Prize winning author Jesse Eisinger, Senior Reporter and Editor at ProPublica, examined why corporate executives seem to commit wrongdoing with impunity and the government’s “inability” to prosecute top executives for corporate crime. His book The Chickenshit Club: Why the Justice Department Fails to Prosecute Executives, looks closely at the deterioration of the Justice Department and how it has come to avoid and mismanage the prosecution of white collar criminals. A book sale followed the public talk.
