Revisiting the Vietnam War

Revisiting the Vietnam War, a panel discussion, was held on Feb. 27 at 6 p.m. in the Pugh Hall Ocora and featured Vietnam War veterans who gave personal accounts of their experiences during the war and reflected on the 50th anniversary of the Tet Offensive. Topics for discussion included questions of American involvement and home front war protests; feelings of isolation and under appreciation; the strategic approach of dehumanizing the enemy; and the role of TV coverage in public perception. The conversation was moderated by Dr. Matthew Jacobs, associate professor in the UF Department of History and director of undergraduate academic programs for the UF International Center.
Panelists included: Cornelius Clayton, U.S. Army combat veteran; Mary Bahr, U.S. Veteran (nurse) and Veterans for Peace; and Gen. John LeMoyn, U.S. Army Lieutenant General, Vietnam infantry commander and Purple Heart recipient.
