J. Hyatt Brown
J. Hyatt Brown is the former president and chief executive officer of Brown and Brown Insurance and currently serves as the chairman of the organization. B&B is the seventh largest insurance broker in the Unites States and is publicly owned (NYSE:BRO). He was elected to the Florida House of Representatives in 1972 and served as Speaker of the House from 1978 to 1980.
Brown currently serves on the board for International Speedway Corporation in Daytona, Verisk Analytics, Inc. in Jersey City and has retired from the boards of SunTrust Banks, Inc., Bell South Corporation, Rock Tenn Company and Next Era Energy. He has served as vice chairman of Florida Residential Property and Casualty Joint Underwriting Association and chairman of The Council of Insurance Agents & Brokers in Washington. He has also served on the Board of Regents for the State of Florida and as chairman of the Board of Trustees at Stetson University.
Brown is a graduate of the University of Florida. In 2000, he was awarded the Distinguished Alumnus Award. Investor’s Business Daily named him as one of their “Top 10 Leaders & Success CEO’s for 2001” and A.M. Best named him to their list of “People to Watch in 2002.”
