A seasoned public affairs professional with expertise in digital outreach and social media, Shelby Taylor is the communications director of the Bob Graham Center. In this role she is responsible for the center’s overall communication efforts including managing all digital media, marketing and media relations. Her pitches, press releases and opinion editorials have earned the center placement in The Chronicle of Higher Education, Florida Trend, the New York Times, and The Miami Herald, among others. She is the writer, editor and creative director for all of the center’s print publications including the center’s semester magazine, Graham Central.

Taylor also sets the center's social media and digital strategy. She has overseen two website redesigns and has significantly grown its overall online presence. The center’s following on Twitter and Facebook has enjoyed a 30-plus percent annual growth rate during her tenure and the Graham Center website consistently boasts more than 2,500 unique website visitors each month. She was responsible for the design, development and installation of the digital media interactive —The Civil Debate Wall. The Wall won one of the nation’s most prestigious communication awards, a 2012 Communicator Award, presented by the International Academy of Visual Arts.

Working closely with the center director, Shelby plays a key role in the coordination of fundraising efforts and in 2013 helped to launch the center’s statewide annual awards program and banquet.

Before joining the Bob Graham Center, Taylor served as part of the strategic communications team with Bose Public Affairs Group, where her client list included Kroger Supermarkets; U.S. Steel Corporation; The Pharmaceutical Research and Manufacturers of America; and RE/MAX of Indiana. Her portfolio includes extensive work in media outreach, social media strategy and online reputation management.

Taylor also has worked as the communications coordinator for the Indiana Hospital Association, the advocacy organization representing Indiana’s hospitals. She was the web master and social media coordinator for the association and its affiliate organization, the Indiana Patient Safety Center. Her responsibilities included preparing position papers, press releases and promotional materials for the association’s ancillary services and its political action committee. Her background in higher education includes a stint as assistant director of Ball State University’s business development unit, the Center for Organizational Resources. While there, she was part of the team that launched Ball State’s Indianapolis Center in 2006.

Taylor graduated cum laude from the University of Florida with a bachelor’s degree in Political Science and a minor in Business Administration. She earned her master’s degree in Public Relations from Ball State University.
