Michael A. Downs is a global consultant specializing in business development, corporate social responsibility, and socially responsible investing initiatives. From 2002-2015, Downs served as President and Chief Executive Officer of The Pension Boards–United Church of Christ, Inc., an Affiliated Ministry of the United Church of Christ (UCC) with net assets of more than $3 billion that provides comprehensive benefits plans and a program of ministerial assistance for more than 22,000 UCC employees. Under his leadership, the Pension Boards expanded its benefit plan offerings to better serve the diverse needs of the church and its employees. Through his work with the Church Benefits Association (CBA), an association representing 52 denominational benefit plans where Downs currently serves as Vice President, he helped leverage the purchasing power of the CBA health plans, resulting in millions in savings on prescription drugs and health care services. He also has introduced wellness and disease management programs to the UCC plans. His previous professional experience included Secretary for Local Church Building for the United Church of Christ (UCC) Board for Homeland Ministries (1991-1997); founding Vice President of the UCC Cornerstone Fund; and Executive Director of the UCC Insurance Board (1997-2002). Under his leadership, the Insurance Board formed a subsidiary captive insurance company, the United Church Insurance Company. A veteran of the United States Marine Corps and graduate of the University of Florida, Downs serves in leadership positions on numerous professional and not-for-profit boards and committees, both nationally and locally. The Downs family lives in Naples, Florida.
