Douglas Wright Remembered for His Dedication to Graham Center Mission

Douglas A. Wright, a member of the Bob Graham Center Council of Advisors who died suddenly of a suspected cardiac event on May 9, is being remembered for his steadfast support of the Center’s mission to promote the civic engagement and leadership skills of students at the University of Florida.

Wright was the Operations and Finance partner for Holland & Knight, LLP,  an international law firm headquartered in the Tampa Bay area. He had been a member of the Council since 2015.

“The Center mourns the passing of Doug,” said Dr. Matt Jacobs, the Center Director.

“Doug was a generous supporter of and contributor to the Center and its mission of promoting civic engagement, public leadership, and public service. We remember him for his commitment to those values, and express our condolences to his family and friends,” Dr. Jacobs said.

Wright earned his B.A. from UF in 1982, and then his J.D. with honors from UF in 1986. He also earned an LL.M. in taxation degree from UF Law in 1987.

He joined Holland & Knight that year and practiced his entire legal career with the firm, specializing in corporate and tax planning. He was also responsible for overseeing the firm’s operations, including accounting and finance, human resources, IT, marketing and facilities functions.

Visitation will be Monday, May 17 from 5-8 pm at Blount & Curry Funeral Home, 605 S. Macdill Ave., Tampa. The funeral service will be Tuesday, May 18 at 11 am at Palma Ceia Presbyterian Church, 3501 W. San Jose St., Tampa.

In lieu of flowers, the family plans to establish a scholarship to honor Mr. Wright at the University of Florida Levin College of Law.
